Early life
Saira Banu was born on 23 August 1944 in Mussoorie, India. She is the daughter of actress Naseem Banu and producer Mian Ehsan-ul-Haq, and spent part of her childhood in London.
Film career
Banu made her acting debut in the film Junglee (1961), which launched her into prominence. She became a leading actress in Hindi cinema throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, earning four Filmfare Award nominations during her career. Her final film before retirement was Faisla (1988).
Personal life
She married actor Dilip Kumar in 1966. The couple did not have children, and her husband died in 2021.
Later work and retirement
After retiring from acting following Faisla (1988), Banu later returned to the film industry as a producer for the Bhojpuri film Ab To Banja Sajanwa Hamaar (2006).
