Early life and education

Paul Franklin Dano was born in New York City on June 19, 1984, and grew up in Connecticut after his family moved there. He began acting as a child and appeared on stage before moving into screen roles.

Dano emerged in independent film with L.I.E. (2001) and became widely known for Little Miss Sunshine (2006). His filmography includes major performances in There Will Be Blood (2007), Prisoners (2013), Love & Mercy (2015), Okja (2017), The Batman (2022), and The Fabelmans (2022). He also received attention for his television work in Escape at Dannemora (2018).

Directing and writing

Dano made his feature directorial debut with Wildlife (2018), which he also co-wrote with Zoe Kazan. He later wrote the comic book The Riddler: Year One (2022) for DC Comics.
